Auditions
The Los Angeles Master Chorale is committed to creating and fostering an ensemble that reflects the energy and creativity of all the communities of LA County.
The Los Angeles Master Chorale will hold auditions in February — March 2024 for the 2024/25 Concert Season. The deadline for submission of your materials is Thursday, November 30, 2023. Materials must be received by 5 PM PT (please note that exceptions cannot be made).
Not all applicants will be invited to audition for the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Submission responses will be sent in January 2024 via the provided email address.
If a singer is accepted into the final round of auditions but not offered a spot on the roster, they may be considered for the Auxiliary Singers list. These singers will be eligible for engagement by the Chorale whenever a roster opening on an individual concert becomes available.
Audition Materials
Singers interested in auditioning for the Master Chorale are requested to submit audition materials through our online form, including a current resume and MP3 audio recordings of their own solo performances.
Your Resume/CV should include the following:
-List your significant choral and solo performance experience, including significant repertoire performed and under what auspices the performances occurred (conductor, ensemble, venue, etc.)
-Outline your musical training/background (such as degree(s), voice teachers, coaches, etc.)
Include your primary email address - most Los Angeles Master Chorale communications are done via email; applicants will be notified via email to schedule an audition.
-Resume/CV will only be accepted in PDF format.
Your Audio Sample Recordings should include the following:
-Two contrasting selections that best demonstrate the quality and versatility of your voice. (You are welcome to include a third selection in a completely different style or genre).
-On the submission form, you will be asked to provide the title and composer for each of your submitted audio files.
-Audio recordings will only be accepted in MP3 format.
Online Submission Process
Please follow the instructions for the online submission form below. All resumes must be in PDF format and all audio files must be in MP3 format. No video or YouTube submissions will be accepted.
Please be aware that due to increased user activity applicants submitting materials in the last hour before the submission deadline may have complications uploading their materials. Applicants are encouraged to submit their materials early, to avoid any technical difficulties. If the process is not fully completed by 5 PM PT on Thursday, November 30, 2023, your submission will not be considered.
Invited Audition Process
Singers invited to audition with the Los Angeles Master Chorale will be asked to sing for the Associate Artistic Director. Singers should prepare two contrasting selections that best demonstrate the quality and versatility of their voice. A pianist will be provided for all auditions. Please bring any necessary copies of your music for the accompanist.
During the audition, singers will also participate in musicianship exercises to evaluate their sight-reading, tonal memory and ability to assimilate music quickly. This may also include a language test, in which the singer could be asked to sight read text in Latin, Spanish, or German in order to evaluate the individual's basic level of familiarity with idiomatic diction in those languages.
After the first round of auditions, selected singers will be invited to a second audition, with the Artistic Director. For this call-back audition, singers should again prepare two selections (they can be the same as at the first audition). The auditionees will also be asked to sing brief excerpts of choral works (scores of which will be provided electronically in advance) as part of a quartet.
Vaccination Policy
In accordance with our duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, the Los Angeles Master Chorale has adopted a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy to safeguard the health of our employees and their families, as well as our patrons and visitors, from COVID-19. This Policy complies with all applicable laws and is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities.
If you are selected for an in-person audition, you will be asked to provide proof of complete vaccination via a secure upload link. This must be provided before an audition will be scheduled.
